On Saturday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred in Mathura's Govind Nagar neighbourhood when many houses fell in the Masani police station area, killing at least three people and trapping several others beneath the debris.
The fallen structures, which were positioned on a mound next to an unpaved road, featured a two- to three-story home and smaller nearby residences. According to first reports, the collapse occurred at 12 noon, causing alarm in the highly populated neighborhood.
Three lives lost, two of which were children.
Dr. Neeraj Aggarwal, Chief Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital, confirmed the devastating loss of life.
"All three were dead when they arrived at the hospital. Dr. Aggarwal identified the deceased as a 45-year-old man and two girls aged six and four years.
District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh visited the site to deliver preliminary information on the ongoing rescue operations.
"The houses in Masani were built on elevated mounds." According to initial accounts, three to four people remain buried beneath the debris. "One person has already been rescued," he explained.
While the actual cause of the fall is still being investigated, the District Magistrate provided a probable clue:
"We were informed that some digging was taking place nearby. This is being investigated carefully."
More victims feared to be trapped.
Rajendra, a local neighbor who watched the incident, expressed concern that eight to 10 people could be buried beneath the rubble. The neighborhood is already crawling with emergency personnel and rescue crews.
Shlok Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, reported that the rescued individual's condition is stable. He further stated that NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) units had been despatched to expedite the relief and rescue efforts.

As worried family members and neighbors await details, the small alleyways of Govind Nagar remain sealed off. Eyewitnesses describe the scene as heartbreaking, with pleas for aid coming from the ruins barely minutes after the collapse.
Emergency services, including fire departments and medical teams, continue to work ceaselessly in the hopes of saving additional lives.
