MLA Satish Krishna Sail of the Karnataka Congress is raided by the ED

The homes of Karnataka Congress MLA Satish Krishna Sail and a few other people were raided by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday.

PTI claims that the raid had been carried out as an important part of the investigation into a money laundering case against the MLA linked to the reportedly illegal export of iron ore.

Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the ED is searching at least 15 locations in Mumbai, Goa, and Karnataka.

An MLA representing the Uttara Kannada district's Karwar assembly constituency is Satish Krishna Sail.

The Karnataka Lokayukta's 2010 inquiry, which found that over 8 lakh tonnes of iron ore were being transported illegally from Bellary to Belekeri port, marked the beginning of the case.

The Karnataka High Court suspended the MLA's seven-year jail punishment in this case last year.

Sail and others had been convicted by a special court in a number of incidents involving the illegal shipment of iron ore from Belekeri port.
