The prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, arrived in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday. Prime Minister Modi is visiting China and Japan for four days.
Prime Minister Modi's trip to China and Japan comes with strained relations between the US and India as a result of US President Donald Trump's trade and tariff policies.
"India and Japan are continuously strengthening their development cooperation," PM Modi wrote on X after arriving in Japan. During this tour, I am excited to meet Prime Minister Ishiba and other leaders. This will offer a chance to strengthen the current alliance and look into new areas of collaboration."
PM Modi had said on X before to the trip that he will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in China following Japan.
PM Modi will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping here, among other leaders.
