Many were taken aback when DK Shivakumar, who has never revealed his desire to become chief minister, seemed totally comfortable with the current situation.

"The Congress party is going through a difficult phase across the country, but we are confident that under Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi's leadership, Karnataka will repeat its victory in 2028," he continued, adding a broader national perspective.

Siddaramaiah dismissed the abrupt migration of Congress MLAs to Delhi over the previous week with a laugh:
To the best of my knowledge, some MLAs may have gone to meet the high command because they aspire to be ministers. They do not, however, oppose the leadership. Many of them told me why they went over the phone.
