In Baddar village, Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir, an extremely damaging mudslide caused by a cloudburst killed seven family members, including five children.
What Happened
A huge landslide caused by heavy rains at around 3 in the morning destroyed the Kaccha home of Nazir Ahmad (38), Wazira Begum (35), and their boys, Bilal (13), Mohammad Mustafa (11), Mohammad Adil (8), Mohammad Mubarak (6), and Mohammad Wasim (5).
Rescue Operations
After four hours of digging, all seven dead were found by villagers and rescue teams from the local government, SDRF, and police. "Devastating" is how Mahore MLA Mohammad Khurshid described the scene.
Context
More than 46 people have died in Jammu and Kashmir this month as a result of the rainy season, which includes this tragedy. Awareness is advised in landslide-prone areas by authorities.
