The Supreme Court's three-judge panel has changed a two-judge panel's decision that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR must be kept in shelter homes.
In Delhi-NCR, a two-judge panel has ordered that all stray dogs be housed in shelters.
The three-judge panel ordered that the captured dogs be released in the same location.
Dogs with rabies or suspected of having rabies, however, will not be allowed to go free.
"They (rabies-infected dogs) should be sanitized and vaccinated but should not be released," the judge declared.
The court directed municipalities to create designated feeding areas for stray dogs.
The court further explained that stray dogs are a problem throughout the nation, not only in Delhi.
The Supreme Court and many High Courts are now considering a lot of petition related to stray dogs. The court declared that all of these cases will be heard at the same time.
The court decided, "Transfer all the cases to the Supreme Court so that a final decision can be taken."
The court declared that it would be illegal to feed dogs in public areas.
The court has requested that the dog lovers and NGOs deposit the funds in the Supreme Court registry.
The judge declared, "Every dog lover and NGO coming to this court will have to deposit ₹25,000 and ₹2 lakh in the registry of this court within seven days, otherwise they will not be allowed to participate in the hearing of this case."
This case will be heard by the Supreme Court in eight weeks.
