The Center, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Punjab were all given notices by the Supreme Court on Thursday over the landslides and intense rains that occurred in North Indian states.
The case's hearing judges, Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran, have also notified the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change.
Environmentalist Anamika Rana appealed the Supreme Court about the extraordinary weather-related disasters that continue to happen in the Himalayan states, particularly Uttarakhand, Himachal, and Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the petition, the latest tragedies are caused by the unlawful tree-cutting in certain locations.
"The court has taken this matter very seriously," his lawyer Akash Vashishtha told PTI. The court has sent out a notice and requested a response within two weeks.
