Monday witnessed damage of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Tavistock Square, London. A strong disapproval of the incident was issued by the Indian High Commission in London.

The incident happened a few days before to the yearly Gandhi Jayanti celebrations scheduled for October 2, according to news agency ANI.
According to the Indian High Commission's statement on X, there has been a dishonorable incident of vandalism of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in London's Tavistock Square.
"We strongly condemn this. Three days before the International Day of Non-Violence, this is not just vandalism but a violent assault on the Mahatma's legacy and the concept of non-violence," the statement read.
The Indian High Commission said in its statement that the matter has been taken up seriously with the local authorities for quick action.
"Our team is present at the site and is working closely with the authorities to restore the dignity of the statue," said the High Commission.
