Around 4:30 AM today, a luxury sleeper bus headed to Gokarna collided head-on with a container truck on National Highway 48 near Hiriyur in the Chitradurga district, turning a calm Christmas morning into a nightmare. Ranjith Kumar Bandaru, the superintendent of police in Chitradurga, recognized five deaths as far, stressing that just these deaths have been confirmed while rescue operations are still underway.
"The bus, carrying 32 passengers, was taken over in flames under the sheer force of the crash," said East Zone Inspector General of Police Ravikanthe Gowda, drawing a devastating picture.
