Kharge said without holding back, "Congress is an ideology and ideologies never die." It was a clear reaction to those who have frequently projected the party's downfall, particularly in the last few years. He underlined that the fundamental values of the Congress—truth, non-violence, sacrifice, and patriotism—remain constant despite changes in political circumstances. He reminded the audience that the Congress, which was founded on December 28, 1885, in Mumbai by 72 visionary representatives, has been the foundation of India's nation-building and freedom struggle.
The leader of the party praised the sacrifices made by millions of Congress employees who faced jail time, suffering, and worse during the independence campaign. The party brought together individuals from all walks of life, including women and those who are poor, under Mahatma Gandhi's guidance. In addition to praising Congress-led governments for revolutionary projects like the Green Revolution, which made India food secure, the White Revolution, the IT boom, and historic rights-based laws during the UPA era, Kharge highlighted historical turning points like the 1931 Karachi resolution, which set the foundation for India's Constitution.
However, Kharge's speech also had a cutting edge. He warned that democracy is in danger today, accusing the current government of destroying institutions established over decades and promoting division in the name of religion. "We have never sought votes by dividing people over temple or mosque," he declared, drawing a difference between the secular heritage of Congress and what he saw as divisive politics. Referencing Gandhiji, he exhorted party members to face hardships with dignity, saying that truth triumphs even when it stands alone.
Rahul Gandhi effectively repeated these ideas. In his speech, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha referred to Congress as "the voice of India’s soul"—one that has consistently stood side by side with the poor, the weak, and the tenacious— rather than just a political party.
